What is This Tile Pattern Everyone is Using?

There’s a tile pattern you currently see everywhere; from HGTV shows like “Flip or Flop,” to magazines, to home improvement websites like Houzz.com. It looks like a lantern and originated in Moroccan architecture. It’s called Arabesque, and it comes in just about every material from which tiles are made; from ceramic to porcelain, to glass and stone.

It usually comes in roughly one square foot sheets adhered to a mesh back. They are available everywhere, from specialty tile stores to the big box stores. They are used in kitchens as backsplashes, and bathrooms as accents in showers and tub surrounds. Is this just a fad, or is it a design trend that’s here to stay? Your comments are welcome…
